Traveling To Juayua
Last night the rain refused to stop so we decided to head out for dinner and drinks anyways. Here’s the most flattering selfie I’ve ever taken:
Feeling very thankful for the last minute Target purchase of this rain coat…
This morning I slept in a bit and showered and packed when I woke up, I went with some hostel friends to get papusas for breakfast and then waited at the hostel for a bit before checking out. The papusas were so delicious!
Alex (hostel friend) and I headed to the main street to catch a 15 minute bus into La Libertad ($1.50), the nearest big city. From there we managed to find the 287 bus to take us to Sansonate ($1.25) – finding the bus was quite a feat, we had to ask four different locals before we finally found the spot! That bus ride left at 1 and arrived in Sansonate at 4:15. We were dropped off at a huge bus station in which it was thankfully easy to find our next bus, the 429, which would take us to Juayua ($.90). That bus was so hot and stuffed so full of people it made it even hotter. The route was mostly windy and our driver was driving very fast so we all got tossed around quite a bit. It was a somewhat arduous journey, but the alternative was hiring a car to drive me which would have cost $40-60, so considering I payed a total of $3.65 for this journey I can’t complain.
After the second bus ride we got to our hostel, Samay Hostel, by about 5pm. This city and this hostel is by far way better than El Tunco. I wish I’d started here like I originally thought I might. I can already tell it won’t be enough time!
Everything is so green and lush, the city is built into and surrounded by mountains, and from what I’ve seen it is a super cute town.
Also, it’s significantly less humid, thank god!
I spent the evening eating mooooore delicious papusas (this time from Sugey Papusería, highly recommend), playing uno in the hostel and hanging on the hostels rooftop!
Tomorrow I’ll spend the day wandering the city and exploring. I’m looking forward to it!
